10 Years of 20i: The People Behind the Journey

When we look back at the past 10 years, we see more than milestones, launches, challenges and growth. We see the people who helped shape 20i, who grew alongside the company, adapted through change and kept bringing their ideas, energy and commitment to the journey.

Over the past decade, 20i has evolved from a small team and a handful of servers into a global platform, serving customers around the world. Our products, infrastructure and technology have transformed and the pace of innovation has accelerated dramatically.

We asked some of our long-standing team members to reflect on the early days of 20i, the changes they’ve witnessed and the things they’re most proud of.

Wayne, Software Developer

Wayne has been part of the 20i team for 10 years, joining the business in 2016 as Software Developer.

Having been with 20i through a significant period of its growth, he has seen first-hand how the technology has evolved.

Reflecting on that transformation, Wayne says:

“The growth has been incredible. Going from just a small group in a room at the start to the scale we are today. From a developer perspective, the sheer speed of technical evolution has been remarkable, especially with AI completely shaking up how we build and innovate.”

Austin, Development Manager

Austin has been part of the 20i team since the beginning, from working in support to working his way up to Development Manager.

From the evolution of the technology behind 20i to the needs of an increasingly international customer base.

Reflecting on the changes he’s witnessed, Austin says:

“The thing I’m proudest of is how far the platform has come, we now build for customers all over the world, in more languages and more currencies than we’d have ever imagined ten years ago.“

Drew, BAU/ Data Centre Operative

Drew has been part of the 20i team for nearly 10 years, working as a Data Centre Operative and seeing the company’s physical infrastructure grow from the ground up.

His role has given him a unique perspective on the scale of that transformation, from the early days of a small team and a handful of cabinets, to the much larger infrastructure that supports 20i today.

Looking back on his time with the business, Drew says:

“I’ve been here for nearly ten years now, so I’ve seen us grow from a small team and a few cabinets in a data centre, with a much smaller infrastructure stack, into something entirely different. I still have very fond memories of those early days in a much smaller office, but I’m genuinely proud to see how far we’ve come and where we are today.”

Ricky, System Admin

Ricky is another member of the team who has been with 20i from the beginning. Working as a System Administrator and seeing the company’s infrastructure evolve alongside its growth.

His role has supported 20i’s growth, from the company’s earliest reseller customers to a global network of data centres.

Looking back on that journey, Ricky says:

“I’ve seen 20i grow from signing up its first reseller to becoming the largest UK reseller. I’ve seen the vision executed, and seen the systems scale from a single datacenter in Derby to multiple DC’s across the whole world.”

Matt, Marketing Director

Matt has been with the 20i team for 6 years, joining as the business was entering an important period of growth.

As Marketing Director, he has been closely involved in 20i’s quick expansion, the launch of new products and the growth in communication with customers around the world.

Reflecting on his time at 20i, Matt says:

“We’ve grown a lot in the six years I’ve been at 20i, expanding into new countries and launching new products we’re genuinely proud of. The great thing is, that growth hasn’t changed our culture. We still listen to our customers and it’s still a fun environment to work in.”

Mike, Design Lead

Mike has been part of the 20i team for almost 6 years, joining as Digital Designer and working up to Design Lead. He’s helped shape the 20i experience that customers interact with every day.

His perspective offers an interesting view of the company’s evolution: while the company can still feel familiar internally, the products and technology behind it have changed considerably.

Reflecting on that change, Mike says:

“20i feels the same to me, but in reality, it’s far from that. Our products, control panel and platform are endlessly undergoing improvements and being reviewed. Our product lineup has grown since I arrived, and under the hood, the team has added so much more value, while the feature list never stops growing.”

Amman, System Admin

Ammans role as System Administrator has given him exposure to many different areas of the business, from infrastructure and systems to the wider technology that keeps 20i’s platform running.

Reflecting on what makes working at 20i unique, Amman says:

“There’s no better place to learn about all different areas of web-hosting and wider computing than 20i. The experience of every single staff member is unmatched and you touch on almost every subject of computing daily!”

Izzy, Digital Designer

Izzy has been with 20i for over 3 years, working as a Digital Designer and helping shape how the 20i brand looks and feels across multiple platforms.

As the business has grown, so too has the role of design, with a greater focus on creating a consistent, recognisable brand while continuing to evolve how 20i presents itself.

Reflecting on that evolution, Izzy says:

“From rolling out fresh and modern updates to building a solid design system that makes our brand instantly recognisable, the design team is constantly challenged to question and innovate. I can’t wait to see how we can make 20i bigger and better than ever in the next 10 years.”
