Buy an .org.uk domain

The .org.uk domain is most commonly associated with charities and nonprofits. It’s also used across the UK for a wide range of community-driven projects. However, there are no restrictions on who can buy a .org.uk website address.

It has a third-sector flavor with the ‘.org’, that’s combined with the ‘.uk’ to give it trust, credibility and recognition to British users.

Organizations that use .org.uk include The Arts Council, Barnado’s, British Heart Foundation, The Conservation Volunteers, The Green Party, The National Trust, NSPCC, The Red Cross, RSPCA and many more. It’s perfect for charities, trusts and social enterprises.

.org.uk domain FAQs

Do I need to be a registered charity, or live in the UK to register an .org.uk domain?

No, there are no special restrictions. Provided that you’re over the age of 18, anyone can register an .org.uk domain name.

You won’t lose any time already paid for on your .org.uk domain by transferring to 20i and once the domain transfer has completed you’ll get an additional year applied for free!

It’s simple to transfer an .org.uk domain to 20i, and it’s free. Just change the domain tag to ‘STACK’ and hit our ‘Transfer a domain’ tool in our control panel, My20i. For further information about all domain transfers, please see How do I transfer my domain to you?

It’s not a nice thing to think about, but even charities can be targeted by miscreants. So we’d recommend buying other versions of your organization name with different popular top-level domains.

For example, if you had the yourtrust.org.uk web address, a competitor or criminal could buy yourtrust.co.uk. They could use it scam your donors. If your organization is likely to grow and/or be around for a long time, it’s definitely worth protecting your name by buying other versions, which can then be redirected to your genuine site.

This really depends on how far your organization casts its net. If you operate solely in the UK, then .org.uk would be the way to go. If your audience is more international and your focus isn’t just on the UK, then we’d recommend .org. But in the end, there are no restrictions, so it’s matter of taste.
