Buy a .blog domain

The .blog domain is one of the most site-specific types of domain available: it’s great for weblogs (do people ever say that anymore?), and not much else.

Sometimes it’s a good differentiator: if your business site is a .com or similar, you can serve your chronologically-written posts on a .blog domain.

It’s a relatively-new generic top-level domain (gTLD), first registered in 2016. Since then, there has been approximately 200,000 registered, so if you’re planning to start blogging, it’s likely that your domain will be available - search now!

.blog domain FAQs

Are there many .blog domains left?

Yes: ‘.blog’ is new in comparison to other domains. This means that it’s quite in unusual compared with the mainstream ‘com’s and similar, so it could be a way to get more attention to your blog.

No, it won’t help your blog, but also won’t harm it. Google has stated that they treat generic TLDs like this one just the same as they would a ‘com’ or similar, so it won’t improve (or damage) your search rankings.

Beyond the actual ranking, it may help users. If someone is specifically after advice from a blog post, they may be more likely to click your result if your URL has ‘blog’ in it. This could work both ways, of course.

It’s easy to transfer a .blog domain to 20i. You will need to get the domain name authorisation code from your current provider. Then, you need to search for it in our ‘Transfer a domain’ tool in our control panel, My20i.

You can then start the transfer, which can take up to five days (but your website will remain online).

For further information about domain transfers, please see How do I transfer my domain to you? The .blog domain is administered by CentralNic, so that’s the process you should follow.

You won’t lose any time already paid for on your .blog domain by transferring to 20i and once the domain transfer has completed you’ll get an additional year applied for free!
