Buy a .in domain

The .in domain is the country-code domain for India. Since registration requirements were made less strict in 2004, it’s been a hugely popular domain in South Asia, with over three million registered in total. It’s primarily used by Indian businesses and organisations, although brand names with ‘in’ in them sometimes use it too.

By using .in, you’re demonstrating your connection to India, of the world’s largest markets. So if you want Indian customers to trust your brand, a .in domain name will be a great starting point.

.in domain FAQs

What restrictions are there on registering .in domain names?

Like most other country-code domains, there are no unusual restrictions, unless you want to register 3 or more. If you plan to register in bulk - which is defined as individuals registering more than 2 or an entity registering more than 100 - are required to seek prior approval from the National Internet Exchange of India.

It’s easy to transfer a .in domain to 20i. You will need to get the domain name authorisation code (sometimes called EPP code) from your current provider. Then, you need to search for it in our ‘Transfer a domain’ tool in our control panel, My20i.

You can then start the transfer, which can take up to five days (but your website will remain online). The transferral fee will give you one year’s registration of the domain.

For further information about all domain transfers - including guides for specific providers - please see How do I transfer my domain to you?

We’d recommend buying other available versions of your company name with different popular top-level domains. But it’s entirely up to you, and depends on how much you value your brand and customers.

For example, if you had the web address, a competitor or criminal could buy, which it could be mistaken-for. They could use it to compete, or even worse: fool your customers into being scammed.

To get free hosting and email with your .in domain, sign up here, buy a domain or transfer one to 20i, then activate your free hosting package in the My20i control panel. Further details here: How do I set up free hosting?
